2月8日(水)から12日(日)まで、田川校長先生と一緒に６年担任2名と児童48名が学習旅行に行ってきました。レギュラーコースは宗教の時間にシスターから『まるちれす』という教科書を使って、「フランシスコ・ザビエル」「天正少年使節」「二十六聖殉教者」などを事前にご指導いただきました。インターナショナルコースは英語で、事前に学習を重ねてきました。子どもたちは九州への学習旅行に期待胸弾ませていました。

羽田から鹿児島空港に降りた時は、木更津より寒く、驚きました。

1日目は尚古集成館、城山公園、維新ふるさと館を見学して、指宿に泊りました。幕末・明治維新で活躍した島津斉彬や西郷隆盛に学び、当時の人たちの生き方に感銘を受けました。

2日目は鹿児島から熊本に入りました。南九州市にある知覧特攻会館では、子どもたちは熱心にメモを取りながら話を聴きました。神風特攻隊となって、17，8歳で短い命を落としていく写真を見せられ、改めて戦争の怖さ、悲惨さを思いました。

熊本城、阿蘇の火山博物館に行き、阿蘇に宿泊しました。

3日目は熊本から福岡を通り、佐賀の吉野ケ里遺跡に行き、それから長崎に向かいました。長崎にある精道三川台小学校と交流会を行ない、長崎歴史文化博物館、孔子廟を見学しました。

4日目は長崎でガイドさんの話を聞きながら、原爆遺構を回りました。特に永井隆記念館、如己堂では時間を忘れて勉強しました。その後、下平作江さんの平和講和を聴き、戦争と平和についてじっくり考えました。「人の痛みが分かる心を持つこと」下平さんの言葉に胸が熱くなりました。午後、大浦天主堂、グラバー園、二十六聖人殉教地跡を見学しました。

5日目は龍踊りの体験学習をしました。朝から2時間ほど練習をして、出島で演技を披露しました。みんなで力を合わせて一生懸命踊り、思い出に残る体験をすることができました。

※『まるちれす』とはポルトガル語で殉教者という意味です。カトリック長崎大司教区が発行しています。

学習旅行報告会も行われました。

Recently, this year’s grade six went on the annual educational trip to Kyushu. It was a wonderful chance for the children to learn, not only about Japanese history, but also to bond with each other. We toured various locations which included the Bakamatsu Museum, Chiran Peace Museum for Kamikaze Pilots, Mount Aso, Shiroyama Park and others. We had a real chance to see some of the sites that Kyushu has to offer and to better understand how real people lived, worked, and fought during Japan’s ever-changing socioeconomic climate.

Perhaps the most moving and thought provoking part of our trip was when we visited sites of religious significance to the Christian faith, located in and around Nagasaki. These included the Nagasaki Peace Park, for which we had a guided tour, the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, the Monument of the 26 Martyrs and the residence of Dr. Takashi Nagai. Many of the children found themselves thinking more about other people and the need for peaceful coexistence with our fellow man in the world today.
